Ibotta and the Nuggets team up with Food for Thought
Over the last year we’ve loved partnering with the Denver Nuggets as they dominate on the court. But this partnership is about more than just a logo on a jersey. Ibotta and the Nuggets are committed to giving back to the Denver community, creating engaging fan experiences, and fighting food insecurity.
This year we teamed up with the Nuggets to partner with Food for Thought for a local Thanksgiving service event. This is a great opportunity to strengthen our Denver community and make a real difference in the lives of our neighbors.
This event brought together employees from both Ibotta and Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (who own the Denver Nuggets), as well as a few other volunteers to pack meal kits for students in low income schools.
Even though it was a chilly early morning event, over 100 people showed up to help, and we were able to package 5,000 meal kits to distribute. Former Denver Nuggets player Mark Randall and Nuggets announcer Kyle Speller helped kick off the morning. Denver Nuggets dancers and Rocky also pitched in to pack some kits and keep the energy going. Next Friday meal kits we packed will be loaded up and distributed to students.
More about Food for Thought
Many students in low income schools get free breakfast and lunch during the school week, but are unable to benefit from that during the weekend. Food for Thought is an organization focused on eliminating weekend hunger by providing meals to students in low income schools to take home for the weekend.
Each kit costs about $5 to make and can feed a family of 4 for the weekend. These meal kits are distributed every Friday during the school year to 26,000 students, who attend 75 schools in the Denver metro area. With Food for Thoughts help, these kids and their families can worry less about what they’ll eat during the weekend.
Sharing Thanksgiving with SNAP participants
Because many of the families that benefit from Food for Thought are also SNAP eligible, we added a flier to each bag sharing the details of our Thanksgiving program during the event. This year SNAP eligible participants that sign up for Ibotta are able to receive 100% cash back on their Thanksgiving meal. It’s just one of the ways we’re trying to make a bigger impact.
