Everything you need to know about SNAP Rewards

If you’re struggling to buy the groceries you need for your family, you know how every little bit helps. In addition to government benefits, couponing and other discounts can help you stretch your budget just a little further every month.

What is SNAP?

Sometimes referred to as food stamps or EBT, SNAP (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) is an anti-hunger program in America that gives monthly benefits to those who qualify. 

SNAP is available for low income families that meet certain criteria (check out this Help Center article for more info). Each state has its own set of rules, so some criteria may vary. In the past we’ve partnered with Feeding America to reach people who are eligible for SNAP, and they also provide resources to those looking to sign up for the government program.

Why should I join SNAP Rewards?

Ibotta’s SNAP Rewards is another way to make your Ibotta experience that much better. This program is exclusively available to Ibotta Savers who participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). You’ll still get all the great offers and benefits you currently see, with additional cash back offers that are exclusively offered to SNAP recipients. In 2024, eligible Savers had access to over $60 in additional cash back through the Ibotta SNAP Rewards program. New SNAP Rewards cash back offers are added on the 1st of each month. 

How to join SNAP Rewards

Sounds great, right? Just remember, Ibotta’s SNAP Rewards program is only available to savers who participate in SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). If this is you, are you ready to jump in? It only takes a few steps to start getting your exclusive offers.

1. Get the Ibotta app

First, you’ll need the Ibotta app. Download the free Ibotta app from the App Store or Google Play Store and create an account. Learn more about how the Ibotta app works. 

2. Start the opt in process

Once you have the app, it’s time to join SNAP Rewards. To start the process, open your profile by tapping your initial in the top left corner. Then tap Profile, Settings, and Preferences. Scroll down to SNAP Rewards and turn it on. Then tap Save in the top right corner. On the home page in the app you’ll see a notification telling you to upload a paper receipt showing that you used SNAP or EBT as a payment method.  

3. Submit a receipt to qualify

To qualify, add any in-store cash back offer to your list, buy the appropriate item at your favorite store using a payment method of SNAP or EBT, and submit a paper receipt through the Ibotta app.

In order for us to properly capture the information, you cannot use a linked loyalty account to submit a receipt, or at retailers where the barcode on the receipt is scanned.

We can’t use the following retailers to qualify your account. But once you’re verified you’re welcome to shop and redeem your SNAP Rewards offers at all of them!

• Marc's

4. Complete the opt in process

After you’ve qualified, follow the prompts in the app to return to the Preferences page to fully opt into the program. Follow the same steps as above, scroll down to SNAP Rewards again and turn it on, then tap Save. 

You’ll need to verify your eligibility every 6 months. Don’t worry, we’ll remind you in the app when it’s time. 

5. Add your SNAP Rewards offers and more

Once you’ve completed the opt in process, find the offers under qualifying retailers and add them to your list. New rewards get added every month so remember to check back in. Plus you add any other great offers you see and start earning cash back every time you shop.

What has SNAP Rewards done so far? 

For Thanksgiving 2024 we partnered with Feeding America to provide 1 million meals to people facing hunger. We also offered our SNAP Rewards program members a 100% cash back Thanksgiving dinner, as well as additional cash back offers to add to their table.
